Smile mk2 brake booster

just wondering why the brake booster has such a big arm in the engine bay. doe have any real importance? can i chop it in half as i intend to fit a bigger engine in the car and it would free up heaps of room.

The arm just moves the brake-booster forward so it doesn't hit the inner wing/guard. Basically there isn't enough room to mount it on the firewall direct (as per a Capri). A lot of people ditch them all together and mount the master cylinder direct to the firewall. You just have to shorthen the shaft on your pedal box.
